Cumulus 9.2.2

Just because customers love our Web Client doesn’t mean we stop making it better. With the release of Cumulus 9.2.2 we’ve made the Cumulus Web Client more powerful and easier to use than ever. Thanks to Canto’s agile development process, customers can expect a new and improved release every 4 to 6 weeks. Today we are pleased to show you some inspiring innovations in Cumulus 9.2.2.

Preview multiple pages

A long desired feature is now live: Multi-page previews. Now, when previewing a file with many pages — for example, a PDF file, a Word document, an Indesign layout or a multi-page Tiff image — you see new buttons at the top of the preview that lets you easily browse through the file page by page. And you can add comments and markups on any page, and your comments will be linked to the page they belong to.

Select your own view

Every page in the Web Client displays a certain selection of an item’s metadata — a small selection on overview pages, a much larger selection on profile pages. However, not every file type provides the same set of metadata, and not every user or every use case needs access to the same set of metadata. Administrators have always been able to define view sets to be used with the Web Client (one Record View Set and one Category View Set) that control exactly which metadata are displayed on which page. However, this one-size-fits-all-approach has its constraints – this is why we improved it.

Now administrators can allow their users to switch View Sets — or Views, as they are called in the Web Client — based on their needs. Think of a specific view for image files providing EXIF information and a different view for PDF or Word documents where no EXIF information is available. Or think of a view for workflow purposes and a view for mere browsing through a large amount of files. Of course an administrator is still responsible for defining appropriate view sets and making them available to users, but once this is accomplished, the user is free to choose a suitable File View or Container View.

Enjoy our improved user experience

With our last release we put the Cumulus Web Client user interface on a “diet” in order to optimize the usage of screen space, especially on smaller displays, and to improve the user experience. With Cumulus 9.2.2, we have continued this direction with two small but striking enhancements:

• We introduced new slim icons for the Web Client that can easily be distinguished
• We made the toolbox flexible. That means, the toolbox can now be minimized if it is not needed. See that tiny new icon that appears as the last entry in the toolbox? Clicking or tapping, on this element shrinks the toolbox to a nice row of icons sticking to the edge of the browser window, thus freeing screen space for the display of your items. And clicking that element again expands the toolbox to its full beauty.

(Note that the toolbox expands temporarily, if you rest the mouse pointer on the condensed row of icons for a moment.)

Similar to the Amazon S3 AssetStore that we introduced with Cumulus 9.2, the Microsoft Azure AssetStore offers a reliable and robust cloud storage solution for your files. Manage your files’ metadata with Cumulus, but spare yourself the effort and the complexity of managing your own file server!

With the Microsoft Azure AssetStore, you have all deployment options at hand. The Cumulus Server and additional components like Web Client can be deployed on-premise in your computing center or you can also move them to the cloud. The Microsoft Azure AssetStore enables hybrid cloud deployment scenarios. You might even want to mix different storage options and only push published files to Microsoft Azure to ensure fast global access.
