Heidelberg will be showcasing its new Varimatrix 82 CS die cutter at drupa 2012.

At drupa 2012, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be unveiling its new Varimatrix 82 CS die cutter (CS stands for cutting and stripping). This expands the product portfolio alongside the successful Varimatrix 105. Boasting speeds of up to 8,000 sheets per hour and a high cutting force, the Varimatrix 82 CS increases productivity and combines significant added value in the finishing process with low investment costs. The die cutter is ideal for commercial and packaging printers who have to produce ever shorter runs and meet extremely short delivery times. This calls for maximum flexibility and productivity in postpress, too. Customer satisfaction - and therefore the cost-effectiveness of a job - is determined first and foremost by high-quality results.

That is why the main factors in developing the Varimatrix 82 CS were short makeready times, top quality, and high productivity. With a maximum sheet format of 605 x 815 mm (23.82 x 32.09 in), the Varimatrix 82 CS is the perfect complement to a Speedmaster XL 75, particularly for short runs. The Varimatrix 82 CS also shows its strengths with small sheet formats of 280 x 320 mm (11.02 x 12.60 in). The die cutter will be available as of May 2012 and will be on display at drupa in the Packaging Print area in Hall 1 as a response to the HEI End market trend.

The Varimatrix 82 CS processes a broad range of different materials. With a high cutting force for its class, the die cutter cuts and embosses paper of 80 gsm and above, card or solid board up to 1,400 gsm, and corrugated board up to a thickness of 4 mm (0.16 in).

The very user-friendly operation of the Varimatrix 82 CS ensures fast and simple job changes and short makeready times. All the key machine stations are equipped with control panels, and ergonomically arranged elements make operation even easier. Quick-action clamping systems and fine adjustment of the cutting plate ensure quick and easy job changes. For example, a chase facilitates rapid locking and release of the die cutting tools.

If mainly difficult materials, papers, or plastics are to be processed, the feeder, belt table, stripping station, and delivery can also be equipped with anti-static devices. This increases reliability in production further still. Additional technical features, such as an independent servomotor that regulates the speed of the belt table independently of the machine speed, provide for greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness. This way, the sheets are fed to the front and side guide edges at optimum speed - for even higher net output.

Optical sensors are fitted on all four front lays to ensure improved quality control over the entire sheet width. These can be combined flexibly in pairs for optimized alignment monitoring. The frame of the die cutting tool is locked pneumatically by pressing a button, thereby facilitating Varimatrix setup and changeover operations.
