The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) is the national trade association of the forest products industry and advances public policies that promote a strong and sustainable U.S. forest products industry in the global marketplace.

The U.S. forest products industry accounts for approximately 4.5 percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP. Industry companies produce about $190 billion in products annually and employ nearly 900,000 men and women, exceeding employment levels in the automotive, chemicals and plastics industries. The industry meets a payroll of approximately $50 billion and is among the top 10 manufacturing sector employers in 47 states.

AF&PA’s member companies make more than 75 percent of  U.S. pulp, paper, paper-based packaging and wood building materials—essential products used everyday that are made from renewable and recyclable resources that sustain the environment. The Association’s membership represents the diverse spectrum of the forest products industry—from independent forest owners, to family-owned mills, to large multi-product, publicly-owned companies that manufacture pulp, paper, paperboard and wood products.

The Association has built a track record based on experience and expertise to prevail on our members’ behalf in the federal, state, and international arenas where policies are shaped.

AF&PA is also the leader in cutting-edge policy information and mission critical statistical and research data about the forest products industry, and our monthly and annual statistical reports are widely regarded as the most comprehensive and in-depth available.

As a condition of membership, AF&PA member companies agree to abide by the Association’s Environmental, Health and Safety Principles.

AF&PA is committed to a sustainable, thriving forest and paper products industry that continues to improve tomorrow’s environment today.
