Multi Packaging Solutions International Limited (MPS), a provider of value-added print and packaging solutions for the healthcare, branded consumer, and multi-media markets, completed two strategic acquisitions that complement other operations within MPS and further extend the range of products the group offers its customers.

In Europe, MPS acquired AJS Labels based in Littlehampton and Featherstone UK. AJS specializes in the manufacture of self-adhesive labels for a variety of markets including confectionery, health and beauty, and personal care products. Employing around 80 people, AJS is an award-winning manufacturer supplying a wide range of blue chip multinational and UK customers.

In the US, MPS acquired i3 Plastic Cards, based in Dallas, TX. i3 offers a fully-integrated solution for creating and personalizing plastic transaction cards including prepaid gift and loyalty cards. i3 Plastic Cards has the ability to personalize all plastic cards, apply multiple print and finishing effects.

Collectively the businesses recorded net sales of approximately $25 million in the most recent twelve months. Marc Shore, CEO of MPS, said, "The acquisition of AJS is consistent with our strategy to develop a more substantial position in their end markets. It will help us grow the business organically and be part of our expanding global capability in the label space. i3 stands for innovation, integration and in-line.Their ability to manufacture on a fully integrated basis is a unique competitive advantage. We believe that both acquisitions are complementary in all respects to MPS's strategic plan.We are excited to welcome the employees of AJS and i3 into the MPS family."

Andrew and Jayne Scrimgeour, owners and founders of AJS Labels, commented, "We have been involved with the business for over 7 years and are very proud of what has been achieved. Over that period, the business has grown significantly. We have built a strong reputation for innovation and service and we now produce an extensive range of labels for some of Europe's best known brands. The deal will allow the company to realize its ambitious plans to grow and develop as part of a business with a global footprint and a broader range of capabilities."

John Searfoss, president and founder of i3, said, "We firmly believe that joining forces with the MPS group is an extremely positive strategic action in the evolution of our business here in Dallas. We have a dedicated team of people in i3 who fully endorse the concept of innovation and sustainable advantage in our products and customer service. We are sure that with the MPS group we can access wider markets with their greater geographic reach and product diversity."
