Merritt is relocating its Waterbury location to Hartford.
Joseph Merritt Company, doing business as Merritt Graphics and Merritt Scanning, located on Watertown Avenue in Waterbury, CTis relocating to the company headquarters in Hartford, CT. It will close its doors for business at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014. The move is an effort for Joseph Merritt Company to consolidate operations.
Joseph Merritt Company has been a fixture in Waterbury since it purchased Superior Blueprint in 1999. In addition to printing blueprints and engineering documents, Merritt grew to include large format and small format color digital printing. Although the Waterbury location still services many accounts across the print spectrum, in recent years the location had become the hub for the document digitization and management division, Merritt Scanning.
The company recently moved its expanding grand-format printing division, Merritt Graphics Big Color, from Hartford headquarters to its own 28,000 square foot facility in East Hartford. The Hartford location was re-purposed and updated to accommodate its other divisions: Construction Document Technologies, Printer Sales, Service & Supplies, Merritt Graphics Print Solutions and Merritt Scanning. In addition to making room for Waterbury’s equipment, all employees were invited to make the move to Hartford.
The updated facility has many cosmetic improvements including new cement floors, paint and carpet, and increased security. Ed Perry, President and CEO of Joseph Merritt Company, stressed that this move was not a sign of weakness. “We are fiscally fit; it didn’t make sense to have a half empty building in Hartford knowing we could absorb the majority of Waterbury’s equipment and employees at headquarters.”
Merritt sent notice to its customers via direct mail. The postcard listed the other locations of Joseph Merritt Company and their respective phone numbers. The company anticipates continuing business with their existing customers through their New Haven, Danbury, Hartford and East Hartford locations. Perry explains, “Customers have the choice of doing business with any or all of our branches, whichever they find most convenient. Merritt has pickup and delivery services available and each location is equipped with quality equipment and knowledgeable employees.” Merritt asks that any questions be directed to customer service by calling 800.344.4477.
