Skowhegan Press, a printing company located off North Ave. in Skowhegan has purchased R.N. Haskins Printing from Rick and Barb Haskins. This acquisition comes less than two years after Skowhegan Press purchased Carrabassett Marketing and Printing back in July of 2013.

Jeremy Martinez, president of Skowhegan Press, said the Haskins sale closed on May 29th, 2015.

Rick & Barb wanted to thank all their customers for 28 years of support, “We would like to thank you for the support, business and in many cases friendship that you have given us for those many years. We could not have been as successful as we were if it were not for you. From our hearts, we would like to thank all of you for the many wonderful years.”

Rick and his wife Barb have retired after many years in the printing business. They wanted to ensure the printing customers would be cared for, that their employees would keep their jobs, and that the business would remain in the greater Waterville community. All of those goals are being met by the new owners.

To summarize his business philosophy, Martinez said, “Our printing business has always been a place where you will find friendly service and old-fashioned values: honesty, integrity, community. We make it our business to help your business grow. Our goal is for you to have the confidence that your specific needs have been met, and that ordering your printing services can be an enjoyable experience.”

In order to reduce overhead, the decision was made to move Haskins out of the 10,000 sq. ft. building at 25 Industrial Drive. This building was sized to house some large equipment that isn’t necessary to the business any more. The company has been moved across the street to 14 Industrial Drive which is a 3000 sq. ft. building. The reduction in overhead will help meet the goal of staying in Oakland for the long term.

“Our long-term vision is to maintain our presence in Oakland and expand our business there,” Martinez said. Orders will continue to be processed out of the Oakland facility, which is a fully functioning digital and offset printing facility. Skowhegan Press has also maintained all of the staff of Haskins, and the phone and email contact info will remain the same. “If all goes well, our customers won’t even notice the change,” Martinez said.

One change that might be noticeable is that our invoicing system is electronic, and combined with Skowhegan’s, so customers will see more electronic communication. Another is the investment in technology. Since the change in ownership, several old computer systems have been replaced and the graphics workstation has been upgraded to the latest software.

Jeremy Martinez, who serves as the president of Skowhegan Press, is spending most of his time running the Oakland facility. Skowhegan’s office is currently running primarily under the direction of Todd Denno, Jeremy’s business partner. “The companies will run as sisters, working together as needed, but maintaining their autonomy as well,” Martinez said. Our large staff and equipment in Skowhegan will also allow us to share work as needed and should allow for growth at both facilities.

Martinez has been the president of Skowhegan Press since he and his partner, Jerry Breault, purchased it in February of 2001 from the Dionne family. The Dionne’s operated the business through three generations for more than 75 years. The business has come a long way since then. Back in 2001, it barely supported Martinez. It now boasts a large staff. “We already have three generations of our family here, including Jerry (my father-in-law) and Todd Denno (my brother in-law). Our staff also includes wives and children and has grown to include 7 full-time and 4 part-time regular employees.” Martinez said. “The Haskins facility employs an additional 2 full-timers and 1 part-timer.”

Martinez wanted everyone to know  that the Haskins number, (207) 465-2155, will continue to work as well as the fax line (207) 465-7377. Skowhegan Press also owns the website www.haskinsprinting.com and all the email addresses associated with it. “This should make it very easy for customers to contact us. We are very excited about the purchase, and so far, have been well received by the customers who we’ve dealt with. We are looking forward to meeting the rest.” Martinez said.
