R.R. Donnelley to Close Wisconsin Book Plant by July
Menasha Facility Was Formerly Part of Banta Corp.'s Operations.
The Post-Crescent -- R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. will close its book printing and bindery facility at 460 Ahnaip St. by July, a union official said today.
Plant workers represented by the Graphic Communications Conference/International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 77P were informed of the plant closure last week, said Rick Grissom, president of GCC/IBT Local 77P, which represents about 40 people at the Ahnaip Street plant.
He said as many as two dozen Ahnaip Street employees, those who work in binding, were expected to transfer to R.R. Donnelley’s plant at 800 Midway Road in Menasha.
About 14 workers are expected to lose their jobs once the Ahnaip plant closes. Grissom said those workers will be offered severance packages.
Grissom did not know the fate of the nonrepresented Ahnaip Street plant’s employees, which would include management, administrative and support staff.
Grissom said company representatives told workers production would wind down gradually through July. The number of people who work at the plant was not available, though R.R. Donnelley employs around 1,300 people in the Fox Cities.
R.R. Donnelley acquired the plant when it purchased Banta Corp. of Menasha in 2007. The Ahnaip Street plant was Banta’s first major production facility.
