Seiko Instruments USA has announced that a recent scientific study conducted by the company shows that its ColorPainter V-64s wide-format printer uses considerably less ink than many of its competitors. The test methodology used in the study accurately measured the quantity of ink used by a ColorPainter V-64s with LX ink, and a Roland VersaCAMM VP-540i with EcoSol Max ink over an extended print period.

Overall, the ColorPainter V-64s used over 30 percent less ink during the test period compared to the Roland/Epson printer, and up to 40 percent less to achieve the same color density in high magenta spot colors. Strict controls were used to ensure both printers were producing output with the exact same color and density during the test. The results confirm that Seiko's industrial inkjet print heads can jet thicker, higher pigment-loaded inks; and therefore, can create the same color density using less ink. As many competitive printers use the same or similar Epson inkjet print heads and the same ink under different brand names, Seiko Instruments USA contends the ink usage results can be applied to other Epson-based printers using similar inks.

"Combined with our lower ink prices, the total savings for a high-volume printer can be over $20,000 per year. In our current economic environment, cost savings as significant as this should be a major motivation to upgrade your current eco-solvent printer to a higher-speed, lower-cost printer like the ColorPainter V-64s," said Patrick Ryan, general manager of Seiko Instruments USA's Infotech Division. "We have long promoted the capability of our industrial print heads to print faster than consumer-type print heads, and to jet higher-pigment loaded inks. This new study accurately measures this advantage in a real-world environment, and allows our worldwide sales force to clearly communicate our product's advantages to prospective customers."

The Seiko I Infotech ColorPainter V-64s and its LX Low-Solvent ink will be demonstrated at the upcoming ISA Expo in Orlando, FL and are available through the industry's most respected technology resellers.
