EFI Focuses on Label, Packaging Markets

September 30, 2010

At GRAPH EXPO, EFI set its sights on solutions, focusing on the areas of the industry where the opportunities for its customers' growth are real and significant. Through technology and market knowledge, EFI is demonstrating how its integrated solutions can make customers successful in the market's growth areas.

The company is focusing on eight vertical market segments which best match its customers’ business needs: On Demand/Print for Pay, CRD/Small Commercial, Commercial/Specialty Printers, Large Commercial/Publishing, Packaging and Labels, Digital Sign/Screen, Creative Agencies/Color Professionals and Office Solutions.

Of special emphasis is the Packaging and Labels market, where EFI's Jetrion 4830 provides flexible options for its users. The mission of the Jetrion business is to "Drive the Analog to Digital Transition in Labels & Packaging" and since 2008 has delivered new products geared for this industrial market. The newest product in the line, the 4830LED, addresses the flexible packaging and shrink sleeve market—one of the fastest growing segments in labels.

It is the first digital UV inkjet label press aimed at flexible packaging market and features full LED curing—which means that there is little or no heat. The flexible, shrinkable inks allow for printing on previously unsupported substrates and thin films—opening up new market opportunities. And with the integration of EFI's Fiery XF RIP, users now have an end-to-end management and production workflow solution for label, flexible packaging, converting, and folding carton businesses. The list price is $549,000 US for the 4830LED UV inkjet system and an upgrade kit is available for current 4830 users.

EFI Jetrion customers give high praise to the Jetrion systems. “Durable labels are a key strategy for Central Decal and critical to our growth into new markets, so it was a natural choice for us to team up with EFI Jetrion and its proven UL recognized systems, said Butch Kaplan, general manager, Central Decal, who purchased the 4830 on display at Label Expo in September.

“During more than 50 years in the flexo label business, I have listened to a lot of people selling a lot of equipment.  These presses and the people selling them make more sense to me than any other digital label solutions," said Bill Donner, owner, Richmark Label, who purchased two 4830s on display at Label Expo. "After speaking with a number of Jetrion’s customers that are in businesses similar to mine, I am even more certain that this is the direction I want to take at this time.”

In addition to the EFI Jetrion industrial inkjet printing systems, EFI is showcasing print management, web-to-print, proofing and workflow solutions; the next-generation Fiery digital print server; EFI VUTEk superwide digital inkjet printers; and EFI Rastek UV wide-format printers. EFI’s suite of offerings is on display in Booth 2000 and in partner booths, including Canon U.S.A.(Booth 2027), Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A. (Booth 2244), Ricoh Americas Corporation (Booth 2017), Xerox Corporation (Booths 400, 600), and others.
