A WARN notice was filed with the New York Department of Labor that TanaSeybert, a subsidiary of Cousins Printing LLC, will be closing its doors. The notice states that 132 employees total will be affected; the layoffs began on Sept. 11, and will continue in stages until Nov. 16. The firm employs approximately 240 workers total.

WARN, or the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, was enacted on Aug. 4, 1988 and became effective on Feb. 4, 1989. It offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of covered plant closings and covered mass layoffs. This notice must be provided to either affected workers or their representatives (e.g., a labor union); to the state dislocated worker unit; and to the appropriate unit of local government.

Formed through a merger in 2004, TanaSeybert combined two New York City printing firms—Tanagraphics and Seybert Nicholas. The company’s seven-story Manhattan headquarters features a complete spectrum of print-related capabilities, vertically integrated under one roof. In addition to eight commercial sheetfed presses, customers gain access to a full bindery, mailing and fulfillment services, and digital variable printing; as well as interactive/online, out-of-home, specialty production, retouching and creative services divisions.
