The spring release of OneVision’s software for automated file workflows and print data preparation is tailored to the specific needs of print service providers: Workflows run entirely automatically through the powerful use of attributes. At the same time, the system allows for manual intervention ensuring a maximum in flexibility when it comes to workflow handling and control.

Personalized print products, printed in small print runs and at high quality, at minimal cost and delivered in the shortest possible time are the top priorities to make customers happy. As a result, print production is faced with new challenges: overnight print jobs must be prioritized, fluctuating order entries have to be balanced out, and peak times have to be managed efficiently while using materials as sparingly as possible. To achieve this, it is important to have a constant overview of the key performance indicators of production and to be able to rely on a smooth data workflow from order entry, prepress, and printing to embellishment and finishing. OneVision’s automation software version 20.1 gives print service providers the tools they need to create a customized, dynamic file workflow and automate the preparation of print data.

More transparency and control: Overview of the file workflow with production “live ticker”

View the status of jobs at a glance in a production “live ticker” - this is exactly what the new “Actions” view in the workflow management system Workspace offers. The exact progress per file (“running”, “waiting” or “scheduled”) and the module is displayed. The user can see at any time the exact status of the file within the assembly line or which module is currently processing the print data.

Workspace can route and prioritize print jobs based upon various parameters such as delivery date, substrate, color, etc. This enables print service providers to keep their delivery dates for express and overnight print jobs and save their margins since everything is being automated through Workspace, and no manual work is involved. By using the module “Edit Properties”, the management of assembly lines can take the level of automation to an even higher level. In “Edit Properties” rules can be defined using job parameters to further automate the production planning and finishing processes. “Edit Properties” may, for example, use the property “page format” to calculate the area of files. This information can be used in the following modules. As a result, the nesting would only be triggered if a defined net area is exceeded.

VDP and setting cutting and die-cutting lines automatically being the main focus for the prepress suite Asura
The prepress package of OneVision software offers a wide range of new applications as well: By extending the “Generate Bleed” functionality, cut lines are now intelligently created both inside and outside of intersecting cut lines.

In some workflows, such as the production of large format flags, it is necessary to place certain objects (e.g. eyelets) several times in one file. With the optimization of the module “Custom marks” this can now be generated automatically.

With regard to Variable Data Printing (VDP), OneVision’s development team has extended the Asura prepress package. Service contract customers can now download a VDP template editor free of charge, which allows using job parameters as well as external data to create variable data files.

Higher ink savings with Inksave, new add-on package for automated image processing

New developments have also been made regarding “Inksaving”. Depending on the selected ICC profile and the maximum amount of ink applied, Inksave now automatically reduces the maximum value for primary colors, thus enabling ink savings in book and transactional printing as well. In addition, optional color corrections with special consideration of skin tones significantly improve brilliance.

In the field of “Automated Image optimization” version 20.1 of the “Amendo Extension” package allows users to overlay and merge images. Photoshop channels are automatically recognized with the “Merge Images” functionality and used as masks when merging two images. This is especially helpful when selected image areas only need to be optimized, or cut out and placed on other backgrounds.

The new features of the OneVision software Generation 20.1 enable print service providers to design their production workflow flexibly, stably and securely according to their needs while taking the level of automation of their print data preparation to the next level.
