    Where's the Money? Web-to-Print

With many Web-to-print applications currently out there, how do you know which ones to choose from? Which ones will give a greater ROI and improve your bottom line while providing user-friendly applications with easy upgrades? Responsive Solutions, St. Petersburg, Fla., provides Web-to-print "systems that mean business."

"Responsive Solutions has been in business for five years. During the first four years, our focus was primarily R&D technology. Within the last few months, we developed a modular program, RSI Lite, a storefront Web portal that costs $6,000 and is upgradable to Customer+. People can buy this software when they need it, instead of purchasing one component at a time," said Greg Shambo, vice president, sales and marketing.

"For example, e-mail and pURLs in a lot of cases try to show unity and it can be difficult, where with our software, it's easier on the back-end. We're based on the Quark and Adobe Indesign servers, and this was a strategic move because our system is able to take these files without involving a third party. Plus, we don't need to spend a lot of money on R&D—it did cost a lot of money to do it this way, but in the long run, it's worth it and the investment pays off," he explained.

    Not a Lightweight

RSI Lite+ is an introduction to Customer+. Responsive Solutions looked at Customer+ and its modules and pulled its best features (shopping cart, links to FedEx) for entry-level use, but as companies expand, they can easily upgrade to Customer+.

Small to mid-size printers benefit from Web-enabling their business: Their work can be put up online, creating opportunities for them to talk to people they never talked to before.

"Printers can start with Web-to-print by using RSI Lite+. In the past, print companies presented to businesses by using PowerPoint slides, but these days, companies are expecting to see exactly what's going to happen within them and how they will get results. We take interest in our customers and want to know how they will be using this software. We provide sales training and service support," said Shambo.

Responsive Solutions' clients range from small commercial printers to large corporations, to marketing service providers and agencies.

Boncraft Inc., Orchard Park, N.Y., selected RSI Lite+ as its economical, entry-level Web-to-print system. Boncraft provides print, mailing, and fulfillment services. It handles print and fulfillment for clients ranging from banks, book publishers, industrial corporations, colleges, universities, retail, and B2B nationwide.
