Quad/Graphics will be purchasing a Presstek 52DI-AC, a digital offset press that features inline aqueous coating supporting both flood and spot coating.

“We are thrilled that a printing company of the size and quality of Quad/Graphics has chosen the Presstek 52DI-AC as part of its production platform,” said Jeff Jacobson, Presstek’s chairman, president and CEO. “Quad/Graphics is clearly an industry leader. This transaction validates Presstek’s business growth strategy for serving larger printers.”

Presstek DI digital offset presses offer printers the most profitable solution for meeting the demand for quick turnaround, high quality color printing in runs from 500 to 20,000. Capable of printing on a broad range of substrates from .0024” to .02” (0.06 mm to 0.5 mm) thick, DI presses support up to 300 lpi (120 l/cm) and FM screening without incurring additional time or expense. These highly automated DI presses combine the efficiency of an all-digital workflow with the versatility and high quality of offset printing.

The Colad Group LLC, a designer and manufacturer of presentation and promotional packaging located in Buffalo, N.Y., purchased a Xeikon 6000 digital color press.

The Xeikon 6000 is capable of running 20 inch wide substrate rolls with virtually no limitations in length with substrate weights as light as 27-lb. text and as heavy as 16-pt. paperboard. The press also features full-color One-Pass Duplex (simultaneous double-sided) printing capabilities and print speeds of up to 10,200 letter-size pages per hour for text-weight stocks and 4,440 letter-size pages per hour for the heaviest paperboard stocks. The press comes standard with the powerful Xeikon X-800 digital front-end that will enable Colad to offer complete customization and variable-data capabilities.

“With Xeikon, Colad will be able to offer dynamic presentation and promotional packaging solutions at quantities of one through 10,000 with responsive schedules and economical prices, while maintaining the high levels of print and product quality for which Colad is well-known,” said Todd Anson, president of Colad. “Additionally, Xeikon’s powerful X-800 digital front end will allow us to provide dynamic variable data packaging, contents, and personalized collateral to help our customers penetrate their markets and fuel their brands through increased read and response rates.”

Colad specializes in the design and manufacture of custom presentation and promotional packaging solutions including ring binders, presentation folders, slipcases, totes and dimensional boxes, direct mail promotionals, and other custom and alternative packaging. The company’s capabilities include design and prototyping, packaging prepress services, offset and digital printing, film laminating and UV coating, die cutting, case making, gluing, mounting, fulfillment and mailing/distribution.
