Ink Verification
ABnote North America introduces DuoChrome Ink. Exclusively offered by ABnote, the patented technology is designed to make the ink visible as one color in traditional (natural or incandescent) light and another contrasting color when viewed under fluorescent light.
While new to the plastic card industry, the technology is currently used in the gaming industry to help authenticate casino chips and dice. Verification of DuoChrome Ink does not require any special equipment and provides a quick and easy way to authenticate print by simply changing the source of light. The ink cannot be reproduced by a photocopier or desktop printer and can be used both as an overt and covert security feature.
DuoChrome Ink is designed for identification cards such as drivers’ licenses, voter registration, health insurance, secure access, and other key credentials where authenticity must be verified. The ink is currently available in two high contrasting color combinations, beige to pink and green to purple, as viewed in traditional versus fluorescent light sources.

Zipping Out Labels
Primera Technology Inc., a manufacturer of specialty printers, announces its new LX900 color label printer. LX900 is Primera’s fastest-ever inkjet color label printer. It produces labels at speeds of up to 4.5 inch per second—almost 17 times faster than Primera’s LX810 color label printer (for comparable print quality).
Separate ink cartridges for cyan, magenta, yellow and black keep operating costs low since only one color at a time needs to be replaced. The semi-permanent printhead utilizes new technology to produce razor-sharp text, brilliant graphics and photo-realistic printing.
Typical applications include product labels for coffee, wine, water, bakery, confectionary, meat, cheese and hundreds of other specialty and gourmet foods. LX900 is also designed for private labeling, test marketing, pre-press proofing, industrial product hazardous goods marking and retail labeling.
Substrates include many different inkjet-qualified label and tag materials, including Primera’s exclusive TuffCoat Extreme white and clear polyester and white BOPP. Printed labels are highly water, scratch, smudge and tear-resistant. Water-resistant paper labels are available in high-gloss, semi-gloss and matte finishes.
