On Demand Technologies, a leading commercial trade printer in the US, has upgraded to the new HP Indigo 7K Digital Press to boost its printing fleet capabilities with the most advanced 19-inch format Indigo digital press.

A key wholesale producer for leading web-print digital print brands, ODT is an industry specialist in short-run, variable data and one-of-a-kind print. ODT operates a highly automated operation for fast turnaround of customized print items including greeting cards, playing cards, role playing cards, and real estate collateral.

The new HP Indigo 7K, just released to the market, will lead ODT’s multi-Indigo fleet alongside an HP Indigo 7900 and HP Indigo 7r to maintain and grow its monthly print volume capacity of several million impressions.

“State of the art Indigo presses are uniquely capable of processing thousands of transactions a day to meet today’s radically fast turnarounds. More than 70 percent of our orders are a quantity of one, such as personalized birthday and holiday greeting cards,” said Tom Van Goethem, ODT owner.

ODT has developed a sophisticated, automated workflow to capture orders by the thousands per day and gang files by the hundreds for optimized printing on the 19-inch sheet. The system enables printing and next day shipping of thousands of packages per day. ODT is strategically located in Kansas, shipping orders throughout the US.

The new HP Indigo 7K Digital Press will also enable ODT to expand its offering using thicker substrates including paperboards and synthetic media. The press launches a new thick substrate kit supporting a higher range of up to 22 pt. (550 microns/650gsm). The press can also print with more than 20 specialty inks, including HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver for a gamut of metallics, fluorescents, high-opacity Premium White, and ElectroInk Easy Release ink for scratch-off applications.

“These new capabilities are excellent for expanding product range, such as in the wedding space,” Van Goethem noted.

An all-digital provider from day one, ODT was an earlier adopter of Indigo technology, starting with the digital pioneer E-Print 1000 more than 20 years ago and continuing to upgrade continuously over the years.
