Early in 2013, the first of two SCREEN industry-leading Truepress Jet520 series high-speed production inkjet press engines were installed at L & D Mail Masters Inc. in New Albany, Indiana. The press proved its value at startup, just 6 days after it landed on the production floor.

So quickly was the value proved that the 33-year old company turned around just a few months later and ordered a second Truepress Jet520 engine that along with the inaugural unit are still achieving headline-worthy ROI, year after year, for this 100 percent woman-owned company.

L & D Mail Masters is a highly successful, full-service, direct marketing firm whose client base counts among it: insurance companies, financial institutions, universities, national sales organizations, publishing companies, healthcare organizations and other industry leaders, large and small. Operating in four buildings spanning 180,000 square feet, the Truepress Jet520 still did not take up too much space, while also reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

“We process a wide range of jobs on our Truepress presses, from 5,000 up to 14 million pieces,” said Diane Fischer, president of the progressive L & D Mail Masters. “With the Truepress Jet520, we can batch smaller quantities together and run them on a big roll. This enables us to turn our larger customers’ orders quickly and allows us to hang onto more of that share of business from among those individual clients; not to mention it has landed us some significant orders due to our ability to turn the jobs faster.”

Vice President of Strategy and Innovation, Krista Fischer concurs. “Our customers love the quality and how fast we can turn projects for them, which is really important. At the same time, we value the quality and versatility SCREEN technology continues to afford us.” For L&Ds direct mail advertising, design enhancements that tend to improve response rates of personalized marketing campaigns make the 520 an appealing alternative to offset/digital hybrid and toner-based production… because of the quality it delivers.

L&D’s goal has always been to serve as a one-stop-shop for its clients, from concept all the way to delivery. The Truepress Jet520 has allowed them to maintain the reliability that their clients can count on. “We’re a mighty team that takes on anything that a customer needs and we work with them one-on-one to get their end result,” added the senior Ms. Fischer. L&D strives to ensure the customer doesn’t need to supply them with anything. The resourceful company even has its own direct mail postal service.

From VP of Sales and Marketing, Jill Peden’s perspective, “The Truepress 520 was a really good fit for our production facility. We are a white paper factory and do a lot of statement processing, another one of our niches.”

When the company launched its new press search seven years ago, it had several objectives. One, it had to have a small footprint so that it fit into a modest, fixed amount of space within one of its buildings. The primary objective? It had to reduce costs. “SCREEN helped us understand how we can increase our profit margins on the projects we’re producing with inkjet technology,” Krista said.

That partner-based approach between L & D Mail Masters and SCREEN continues to this day. While L&D typically performs its own maintenance on the presses, like changing inkjet heads, Diane Fischer is still reassured by the fact SCREEN is only a phone call away. “They’re very reliable. SCREEN does not bring anything to market that’s not floor-ready within the install. Anywhere from a week to six days, we were already producing products.” This was especially helpful in 2013 when L&D needed to meet a deadline with their then 25th-anniversary open house.

The veteran direct mail production executive reinforced her satisfaction with her company’s SCREEN experience. “Many machines require a back-up for redundancy. L&D has one, but not out of need. We have the work to keep the two lines busy and they are very reliable. SCREEN does not bring anything to market that’s not floor-ready as evidenced by their remarkably efficient installation. That’s what we really liked about the SCREEN equipment.”

Krista Fischer summed up the company’s experience with SCREEN perhaps best: “They have been a great partner!”
